The Group Incubator: 12 Month Generative Studio Group starting August 11
Second and fourth Mondays monthly, 10am-noon Pacific Time, starting August 11 + monthly 1:1 sessions to be scheduled at mutual convenience
The vibe: you, me, a few of our new best friends, and your manuscript. Using the articulated container of group work and the accountability of mutual deadlines, we will work individually and as a group to bring your book into the world.
This container is halfway between bespoke 1:1 book coaching and a generative group class, and we’ll sample from multiple pedagogical models and modalities. In a hybrid of group classes, synchronous studio time, and 1:1 coaching, we’ll move one step at a time from idea to polished manuscript.
This container is a best fit for writers with some experience. You don’t need to have written a book previously! But this isn’t a 101 class (if you’re looking for something more introductory, please feel free to reach out for a referral), and you’ll get the most out of your investment if you arrive with familiarity with the genre and form you’re writing into.
To be a good fit for this class, please either:
Have taken one of my workshop courses (EMC I, EMC II, Braided Essay, Hybrid Memoir).
OR
written at least one full length literary essay AND
Have workshopped at least one literary essay AND
Have a well-formed idea, pages, or an early draft of what you want to work on during the class AND
Feel comfortable giving and receiving creative feedback (I will provide the framework for these discussions)
AND ALSO
Have enough out-of-class time to work on your manuscript during the class period. “Enough” will differ from writer to writer, but I think roughly four hours per week is a good minimum standard to work with.
If you’re uncertain whether The Group Incubator will be a good fit for you, please feel free to email me to discuss.
Writers will leave this class with…a book! If you keep pace with the course, you’ll also leave with a deeper understanding of your own process, how to explore themes and ideas on the page, craft tools for research, generation, and revision, and a working draft of an book length work of nonfiction. We’ll also work together to craft your query and cover letters, and we’ll cover how to write a proposal (though we won’t spend dedicated group time on proposal writing).
What’s Included:
Monthly group craft session (lecture/discussion + exercises)
Monthly group studio session (process talk + synchronous writing)
Monthly 1:1 creative coaching session with Margo
Resources, readings, and assignments for your independent work
Unlimited email support
1 full manuscript read with verbal feedback on your working draft
Query letter, cover letter, and proposal coaching
Publication strategy
Important to Note:
By design, there is no group feedback/workshop component to this course. You will receive direct granular feedback from me, but you won’t be responsible for reading and responding to student work.
The Group Incubator is billed monthly at $450 per month. I am happy to take payment plans.
