The Business of Writing: 3 Session Seminar starting June 9

$190.00

Tuesdays, 2-4pm Pacific Time, starting June 9

Join me and a group of publication-minded writers for a deep dive into the business of writing: exactly when, where, and how to submit your work for publication. This course is designed for prose writers—fiction and creative nonfiction—who want to share their work beyond the draft stage, whether that means literary journals, magazines, newspapers, or even a book.

Think of this course as a guided tour through the bowels of the business of writing and publishing. We’ll cover short form and book length publication pathways, and you’ll leave with a clear map of how the system works, and a practical plan for how to move your project toward its readers.

We’ll cover the full spectrum of publication options—from literary magazines and agent querying to self-publishing and alternative models. Along the way, you’ll receive live feedback on your author bio and cover letter, draft a sample query letter, take part in discussion-driven classes, and work through short exercises that benefit from group energy and shared experience.

You’ll leave with a new or refreshed author bio, a draft cover letter and/or query letter, and a publication pathway plan you can put into action right away. Literary publishing can be a perplexing space—let me be your guide.

This course is geared toward prose writers (fiction and creative nonfiction) at any stage who are thinking about publication—whether you have a piece ready to submit, a draft in progress, or a future project in mind. You do not need a specific manuscript to benefit from the class. There is minimal reading or homework; most of the work happens together, live, in our sessions.

This is a 3-session seminar. We meet on Zoom, Tuesdays, 2-4pm Pacific Time, starting June 9
